About Us
The Energy Law Group (ELG) was created in 1993 and has grown consistently since then. It is made up of lawyers with specialist expertise in the energy and natural resources sectors and all belonging to independent European law firms. The ELG covers most European countries and constitutes the most extensive network of European experts in energy and natural resources law. The coordination of our network is such that it offers to each client of a member law firm an opening in Europe and beyond, for legal services within the energy and natural resources sectors.
Presentation of the Group
The members of the ELG are able to offer the collective expertise of more than 220 lawyers specialising in domestic and EU energy and natural resources law. All have developed close personal relations and are regularly called upon to work together.
The group, which is a non exclusive working group, convenes twice per year in order to enable its members to :
- exchange their professional experiences in the energy sector,
- present the changes that have occurred in their respective national laws,
- collaborate with regard to common publications,
- where appropriate, review together activities of clients and principal players in the energy sector,
- jointly respond to international invitations to tender, and
- collaborate together on projects.
The clients of the group members include corporations, banks, State entities and institutions.
The members of the ELG are able to advise and assist on legal and tax issues in all fields of the energy and natural resources sectors. This includes the drafting of legal opinions, representation in domestic and European courts, and arbitration proceedings, advising on anti-trust law relating to the energy and natural resources sectors, providing assistance and advice on financial, regulatory and contractual aspects of major projects, including industrial pollution and corporate restructuring issues. In particular, the members of the group have a wide experience in all areas of litigation and dispute resolution procedures and contribute to the evolution of case law and doctrine through the publication of many leading professional articles.
The practice of the members of the group also extends to assistance to, or working with public regulatory authorities, with which members have established close relationships.
